Medical Coding and Billing Master Certificate Program

In the healthcare industry, proper recordkeeping is essential. As a medical coder, you classify medical data from patient records. The Medical Coding and Billing program at Computer Career Institute at Johns Hopkins University provides you with the skills necessary to become an important member of the healthcare community. You can learn to review patients' records and assign numeric codes for each diagnosis and procedure. You will learn:

  • ICD-9 and CPT-4 coding
  • Medical terminology
  • Medical billing and insurance
  • Medical ethics and law
  • Introduction to pharmacology

Additionally, you will learn more about the growing importance of security and privacy of medical records, as required by HIPAA (Healthcare Insurance, Portability and Accountability Act). Externships provide you valuable practical experience under the supervision of Computer Career Institute at Johns Hopkins University and a cooperating physician's office, clinic or other healthcare facility.

Successful completion of this program prepares you for the American Academy of Professional Coders examination for Certified Professional Coder (CPC) certification. Additionally, you prepare for the American Health Information Management Association Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) and Certified Coding Associate (CCA) examinations.

Our Medical Coding and Billing certificate program provides the foundation to pursue an advanced degree in Health Information Management.
